Well, after yesterday’s beach research (and mistaken docking at the local nude beach) we planned to go to the extreme end of Magen’s Bay. First, I ran along the half mile beach four times in about an hour to prepare for my day of doing nothing.
We loaded up the beach bag with drinks and snacks and some reading material: Entertainment Weekly Magazine and The Devil’s Guide to Hollywood: the Screenwriter is God; and our cell phone. The last article in the EW was by Diablo Cody, the screenwriter of Juno. (I hate to sound cheesy but I am sort of inspired by Diablo Cody – it’s the stripper turned Hollywood screenwriter and Oscar winner story that I can’t help but love, I guess.)
At one point a group of kids started playing Frisbee and C ran into the water and then sort of sat and watched the Frisbee go from person to person. She waited patiently for her turn but it never came. Then, finally, one of the girls asked us if she could throw C her Chuckit water toy since they felt bad for ignoring her. It was pretty funny to watch and it occupied her for like an hour or so.
Sure enough, H has made some new friends since I left, J, C and A, and the three of them came down and helped celebrate my birthday– sitting on the beach, chatting and watching C randomly run and chase pelicans in the water. Their boat is called Exit Strategy and is currently docked in Yacht Haven Grande. The second picture is the three of them H and C in our dinghy on the way home from the beach.
J was teaching H how to do the basics of kite boarding and it looked like he was having fun. I was enjoying acclimating back into island life. By the end of the night, there was nothing of ours that wasn’t covered in sand.
H is now cooking a recipe from our new cookbook, thanks cousins! – it’s Mamma’s Broccolini and Ricotta Pasta – although we are substituting green beans for broccolini, it already smells wonderful. We also still have the birthday cake leftovers that we’ve been eating all weekend. The anchorage is pretty calm and extremely quiet, especially at night. Today boat life isn’t so bad.
